Laytonville High School Peer Counselor and Buddy

Laytonville's Healthy Start provides a variety of activities for teens including peer counseling, youth mentoring, summer activities, and teen night, which is held most Saturday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Harwood Hall (check the calendar for the current schedule).

The Laytonville High School Buddy Mentoring Group is sponsored by Healthy Start. Once a week the high school "Big Buddies" go over to Laytonville Elementary and hang out with their "Little Buddies."

The 2011-2012 Peer Counseling year is off to a great start. The Peer Counselors were recently trained in beautiful Philo, California, then paired with middle school buddies. Soon they will be helping to coordinate health education days at the high school. Our Peer Counselors are also active participants in "Youth Speaks Out," a radio talk show held on the first Sunday of every month on KZYX/Z. This year the group also plans on working on a "Social Norms" campaign, as well as designing brochures and posters to distribute around the high school.

If you would like more information about the Peer Counseling program, please contact Jayma Shields at 984-8089.
