Sign-ups
With little league in full swing, the end of school calendar filling up, and the summer in front of us, I know it’s hard for parents to start thinking about fall soccer. But, now is the time to sign your child up! Any child pre-school through eighth grade is eligible to play. The goal of Laytonville Youth Soccer is to emphasis skill development, good sportsmanship, and to provide a positive playing experience. Sign-ups will be held May 17th, 18th, and 19th (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) after school in the Multi-purpose room. Cost is $30 for the first child in the family, and $15 per additional child. Youth soccer is run entirely by volunteers, sponsored by the Sheriff’s Activity League (SAL), and receives major financial support from local businesses. Last year we had a great season, with over 100 kids from Laytonville playing on 10 teams. We also need adults to help organize, coach, and assistant coach. Don’t miss out on the fun. For any questions, or if you can’t make the sign-up due to work, please call/email Trish ASAP at 984-7394 /tsteel@mcn.org.

All children are required to provide their own shin-guards which must be worn at all practices and games. Soccer cleats are highly recommended, and we have a box of cleats available for “trade-ins” as kids outgrow their shoes. Please make sure the cleats are made for soccer, as baseball cleats have an extra cleat at the very front of the shoe and may not be worn for soccer due to safety reasons.

Players will be contacted by their coaches sometime in August with team practice and game schedules. Practices often start around mid-August, and the season begins with opening day September 11, 2004. Games are played on Saturdays, with the two older divisions probably having midweek games as well. The season ends around the end of October.
