Local Business |
Laytonville is a small town of approximately 2500 people thirty minutes north of Willits in the heart of redwood country. Cattle and horses graze under the big oaks of Long Valley, oblivious to the sound of logging trucks headed south. For years, this was hunting and fishing country, first for the Cahto Indians and later for white settlers who developed logging operations and kept hunting lodges.
Today, the culture of the community is enriched by the involovement of many talented local artists and musicians and the presence of the Cahto Indian reservation. Overall, a pioneer spirit still pervades the community and an independent pride asserts itself in the personality of the local population. Many families have lived in Laytonville for generations and others came with the back-to-the-land movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The goals of the community are sustaining a healthy rural life, revitalization of the local economy and dedication to preservation of the local evnironment. |
